dandelion footprints

Hello world!!!

Oh my gosh, it’s soooo exciting to be alive and enjoying a evening. Too bad I’m not on the 99th floor of a tall building with the lovely night breeze whipping my hair back as I stare nonchalantly at the speeding cars down on the street below me.  Of course, the picture wouldn’t be complete without jazz in the background! I suppose sitting in front of a laptop at my cooped up desk is alright surrounded by yellowed dorm walls is rather fine & dandy also.

I’ve always wanted a pet, and my top three were monkey, penguin and dog. I wonder if they’d be friends? The unfair thing is all throughout my childhood, I whined and tried every trick to get my parents to buy me a pet and they never agreed. But then yesterday on a whim, my mom got my brother a fish tank, and they’re off to find kindred fish spirits at the store soon! That’s okaaay though cause I love EATING fish not PETTING them.

Too bad, tooo bad. Too bad I’m not actually a pessimist.

Oh, are you a pen & pencil type of person or an eraser & whiteout type of person? I think those happy little scented erasers smell so nice and and and I love how they come in all different shapes and sizes and oh jeeepers, I really must check up on my eraser collection. Hopefully it hasn’t melted into a puddle of rubber. Ewww, that’s what the wicked witch must have been like after Hansel and Gretel got her stuck in her oven. But pencils can quite awesome too what with the colored lead and pretty designs. Mmmmh, you be the judge.

Dum, dee dum. I’ll be back!

I am Anita Pantherina

Good Sunday to you all! The title of today’s episode is quite clever, I think, but I wonder if the flavour of it is too subtle for the layman’s tongue. Allow me to explain! I am prone to the occasional bout of onomatomania, and, for the last few feverish nights, my obsession has been the whimsical “Amanita.” For those of you who don’t know, Amanita is a genus of mushroom. Some of the most toxic mushrooms known to man are amanitas, and interestingly, this genus accounts for 95% of the mushroom-related fatalities around the world. That aside, I think it’s a beautiful word, and the insidious nature of it makes her all the more intriguing. The titular agaric, amanita pantherina, is a toxic mushroom more commonly referred to as the “panther cap,” but all that is beside the point. Anita Pantherina would be an awesome name, that’s all I’m saying.

life is pain

Posted by jayto at 1:06 am in "reality", and college, japan

today, i stayed up past my bedtime intentionally. tomorrow i will wish i was asleep.

 life is pain.

 kidding. sort of.

let us speak of college. but first… eat your words. it will amuse me.

i go to UTD. i did not  choose to come to UTD because of their great chess team, awesome frisbee team, or really good pool players. i go to UTD because they throw money at me. many of my other classmates agree with me. this has therefore brought me to the conclusion that UTD is, in fact, not what it seems, but in fact, a miles wide transmutation circle for creating the philosopher’s stone.

 kidding again. sort of.

more next friday night. or possibly saturday morning. what’s the difference?

The morning show

Posted by Varies at 9:15 am in Helsinki

Hellooooo! It’s early here in Dallas (though it probably won’t be by the time I’m finished writing this), and I have to say that it’s looking like it’s going to be a fine day. The weekend is here, and, though your week may have been weak, let’s end things right by taking a step back to relax. Currently, I’m chilling out in the cool confines of the Contact crisis counseling center. It turns out this is the one week of the month when I wasn’t supposed to show up, but hey, I drove 40 minutes to get here, so I might as well mind the phones. I be going where the river be flowing, you feel me? This hour is brought to you by the fine folks down at the MTV — delivering fresh beats and forecasts all day and all night. We’ll be back after a short commerical interlude, folks, so stick with us!

Something Missing

You may have noticed that last week’s scheduled post was cancelled, as well as this week’s. To make up for it, have a picture of a boat. See you next week!

Two more years

Posted by Varies at 9:17 pm in Helsinki

I’ve always wondered why there weren’t as many Asians in my grade level as there were in the class two years below. For reference, I graduated in the class of ‘05 while Dan’s class graduated in ‘07. The people in my grade were mostly born in the years 1986 and 1987 while Dan’s classmates were mainly born in 1988 and 1989. Those dates’ significance will be explained shortly. I’ve known Dan for a long time now, and back when we were both in school, I gathered that there were a lot more Asians (Chinese people specifically) in his grade than there were in mine. Thinking back to elementary school, I had only one Chinese classmate in first grade. There might have been a total of five Chinese people in my entire grade. Gradually, the number increased, but there were never enough Chinese people in elementary school to form cliques. In fact, I never had more than two Chinese friends in my grade level during those years, and the Asian daycare that I went to fit into a single tiny room in the owner’s house. Interestingly, this all changed by the time I got to third grade. There was suddenly a massive surge of Chinese children, and the daycare place had to be relocated to a much larger room in an even bigger house. Where did all the kids come from? Well, from China, obviously.

Feeding my Ego

Today, I need an Ego boost.

I’m Bowman, Fuck You

That oughta do it.

Detachment

Posted by Varies at 9:54 am in Helsinki

I volunteer at a phone crisis center, and I’d like to say some things about it. See, there are calls that I like working. If someone calls in looking for emergency aid — a cab ride to a domestic violence shelter, a place to stay the night, or something like that — you can give the caller some actual help, and it is rewarding in many ways. If someone calls in and has a problem that I can give referrals for, that’s also something that gives a certain amount of satisfaction. I can even enjoy the calls where it’s a helpless caller who needs you to help them with a plan to help them get through the day. These people can be helped, and it’s a good feeling when you successfully do your job. Ideally, a crisis line would only have to deal with these kinds of people and problems. Unfortunately, there are way too many people who are “frequent callers.”

I [g]oughta go

Posted by Varies at 9:05 am in Helsinki

What a busy week it was, and what a busy week it will be. Looking back, I spent way too much time writing essays and reading about treatments for chronic neck and back pain. Oh! I also watched quite a bit of playoff baseball, but that’s neither here nor there. Just to finish the thought, I’m going to have to admit to being wholly uninterested in the ALCS. It looks like it’s gonna be a terrible series. On the other hand, I’m totally hyped about the Rockies and the records that they could potentially set if they continue their winning ways. When it comes to sports, there are a lot of obscure records. Part of the enjoyment I get out of sports is seeing those records unearthed any time someone approaches them. I also like seeing insane statistical anomalies, but that’s just me being weird. Read on for stuff that has nothing to do with baseball.

Posted by Lulu at 4:15 pm in Helsinki

i quit.

not an existential crisis, but a crisis nonetheless. i’m not sure i want to be in a business school. you see, i don’t even like money. or math. or even economics.

i’ve just always been extremely good at school.

and so, i say this to all the asian motherfuckers in the world:

thank you for taking my soul from me.

oh, no. i’m staying in school. i quit the blog.
