A week in review
Even though I’m still one of those old-fashioned folks who believes that Sunday is the start of the week, I’m gonna review the week on a Saturday. Read up after the page break.
This past week wasn’t bad. I had my usual 4 hours of volunteer work on Sunday morning (during which I wrote an entry explaining some of the goals that I have for the site. It’s not my site, but I can still have goals, alright?). I went to class every day this week without oversleeping once (unlike in past weeks), and I spent the majority of class time planning out the series that I’m working on. Inventing systems, hierarchies, organizations, and cultures is something I find highly enjoyable! There’s something about trying to make imaginary ideas fit together and make sense that sends my mind sliding into overdrift. It’s a shame I can’t get the people around me to be terribly excited about my ideas. I guess that’s why I’ll never be the leader of a glorious revolution. Anyway, if anyone is a fan of arcades and has ideas about an ideal arcade culture, feel free to slip a comment in.
Back to the school front, the two exams I took last week came back with some rather disappointing resultations. A B+ on sociology is unacceptable! I was 1 point below the A- threshold, so blah. On the other hand, I got a 97 on my mechanics of English grammar exam. I really should have aced it, but I made some mistakes that would make FOBs and illegal immigrants chuckle. Speaking of exams, I had another exam this week (this time in Child Psychopathology), and I felt pretty good about it. It helps that every question came from the quizzes that she gave us to study. If only I had studied all of the quizzes. On a brighter note, grammar class is still hilarious. You’d be surprised at how many dirty grammar jokes there are. Sometimes I get the urge to blurt out “Watch your language!” but I figure that’s not such a good thing to tell your grammar professor (he’d probably get a kick out of it, but still!).
[Anti]socially speaking, I didn’t have much human contact this week. I worked out with a buddy on Monday, but I couldn’t make it on Wednesday due to a surprise quiz. I even chatted with Richard a little less than usual on account of the [schooling] business. Still, I think we got in the usual amount of inane banter on video games, macbook pros (this was mostly him), manga, our projects, and anime (pretty much just him again). I kept wanting to say things about ‘the arcade thing,’ but the dialogue didn’t seem to garner much enthusiasm. I realized that I need more friends who share my interests. There’s seriously only one person that I can talk to about the things that really excite me, and even then, he doesn’t quite share my zeal. I don’t want to join anime club or anything to find fresh ears, but I don’t know who else would be interested in talking about the project that I’m trying to pen! Sadly, I didn’t get to talk to my secret friend much this week. This person had an exam to study for (the first of a fledgling college career!), so I didn’t mind the radio silence. Thankfully, I had Rodrigo y Gabriela to keep me company. Still, there’s nothing quite like talking to secret friends, so I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed!
Looking forward, I’ve weathered the first round of exams, so, as I sit in my corner waiting for my trainer to stitch up my cuts, I think I’ll use a lot of commas, references to boxing, and a tangent in this sentence. After that, I’m planning to do some more work on a map that I have in the works. My alter-ego, qPirateKing, is sort of a big deal in the world of Starcraft mapping, and I want to crank out one last opus before Starcraft 2 sweeps over the world, leaving South Korea in ruin.
Well, that’s the week in review! I’ll be back tomorrow with more whatever.
