Why hello, friends! Today I will be discussing cartoons. Specifically, cartoons from Japan! What is Japan, you ask? What a good question! You will be able to find Japan off the coast of the Asian continent.

Japan is an archipelago! What is an archipelago? Well it’s very simple: An archipelago is a chain of cartoons. As some of you may know, Japan is literally made of cartoons. Why do we know this? Because Japan is really good at covering up how badly its economy is failing! But that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

Surprisingly, this sentence contains a nonstandard grammatical device! (Can you spot it?) Normal people like you and I don’t care that the adverb at the start of that sentence does not describe a verb, adjective, or adverb; but a ‘good’ prescriptivist probably would.

Even though I’m still one of those old-fashioned folks who believes that Sunday is the start of the week, I’m gonna review the week on a Saturday. Read up after the page break.

Since most of you kids are still in school and not yet considered professionals, this might be an interesting thing to think about. I’m sure that you folks aren’t tuned into sports like I am, so I’m going to link to a video here and comment on it after the break. After you watch it, take a moment to form an opinion, and we’ll have a one-sided discussion!

Just a bit of advice — all videos of this press conference are kind of quiet, but don’t turn it up too loudly because it crescendos sharply at certain points.

A World In Conflict! War is coming home. An exciting prospect! I’m excited. I’m excited that I might die.
On a completely unrelated note:

I can’t tell if I drew a boy or a girl. Seriously, what? Someone clear this up for me.

This post is a fill-in post. I wrote another post, but the video embedding process was going nowhere (contrary to the opinion that I was simply too lazy to give an effort). Anyway, here are some other things I was considering writing before settling on the other thing (which I hope to post eventually).
1) Halo 3 is overhyped. I’m glad it’s been released! Maybe now people can stop talking about it.
2) Why do so many people feel the need to “film” themselves talking into a camera when expressing opinions? Just go to youtube and you’ll see a bunch of featured videos where some clown is in front of a camera offering opinions about the Jena 6. My theory is that these people don’t know how to spell or write in coherent sentences, so they can’t run conventional blogs. They also think they look better than they actually do, and, like most teenagers, they think that other people really care about their opinions.
3) Prescriptivists suck. Too much to say about this, I’ll write a separate post later.
4) The perfect future — a story whose entire basis is a grammar pun.
5) The BEARcade.
Blah blah blah.

It is a little-known (though not-so-well-kept) secret that in Plano, if you know how to find it, there’s a set of railroad tracks atop a bridge with a creek beneath it and a very large tether hanging from below the bridge. No one’s exactly sure how the tether got there or how it stays so securely fastened. All you can assume is that, judging from the boards planted in the nearby trees for climbing, the rope tied to the steep incline nearby for access, and general grafitti in the area, someone had a hunch that this was an important place. One can also judge by the lack of fences blocking off the area that no one has died trying this yet. One can also assume from the amount of wear and tear from people’s feet on the ground, that absolutely everyone has put their foot in the noose, grabbed hold tight, and swung.
Everyone except you, of course, who might want to see Ben Buono here demonstrate how to properly swing it.

No. I have not seen that video. I’ve just heard the audio over the radio (on NPR, no less). It’s another lazy Sunday here in the crisis hotline center, so I’m just gonna talk about life (and the lack thereof). Read on if you think you would be interested in being bored… by proxy.

Pompous, presumptuous, pretentious, okay. Let’s go.
I used to be, and still am (though to a lesser degree… I stopped caring so much), obsessed with systems. How do you function? Why do you believe what you believe? Why are you standing there talking to me?
The most fun I’ve had in college so far happened on the day I found a communist behind a table on the street. This was fun. Yes, fun.
I got into an argument with the man. No, I wasn’t trying to change his views, or shoot him down. I wasn’t even angry or frustrated with him. I just wanted to know what the hell would drive him to spend many hours in the hot sun on the streets of New York standing behind a table angrily waving fliers in the faces of passersby.
In the end, I figured out two things:
